Saurav Kumar Boruah
Saurav Kumar Boruah is an amateur photographer from Assam, India. His primary intention of photography is to document the rich cultural and natural heritage of Assam along with the associated folk life.
He started taking pictures using his mobile phone camera and a compact canon digital camera of his sister during the year 2011-12. Soon it became his hobby and he started running after butterflies. After winning two prizes in college competitions, he had got his 1st DSLR camera in February, 2015 and entered the world of photography in a serious way. In 2016, he was awarded as Upcoming Photographer by Photography Club of Assam. His photograph named ‘and the day start’ became Best photo of the Exhibition in the 2017 annual photography exhibition of Photographic Society of Assam. In 2018, he won the runner up trophy in Photographer of the year contest conducted by the Photography Club of Assam. In the year 2019, he achieved his first photographic distinction Artist FIP (AFIP) from Federation of Indian Photography and his second photographic distinction Artist FIAP (AFIAP) from The International Federation of Photographic Art or Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP). With this, at the age of 27 he became the youngest North-East Indian to achieve an International photographic distinction. In 2020, he received Excellence FIP (EFIP) distinction from Federation of Indian Photography and Hon.AvTvISO distinction from AvTvISO Club of Chennai, India.
Saurav Kumar Boruah has participated in different national and international competitions and won a good number of awards including awards from International Salon New York 2019, III World Annual Ecological Photo Contest Russia, Photographic Society of America Interclub Contest, and 20th FU international Salon 2021 etc. He has acted as a jury member in different national and international competitions.
Till now, his photos have been exhibited in 27 different countries. Also his photos have been published in different reputed platforms and magazines including National Geographic Your Shot, Asian Photography, Chizz Magazine etc. He has worked as a resource person in few photographic workshops and he has also acted as a mentor in some photo walks.
Apart from photography, he is also interested in writing. He has written two books namely; ‘Kuwolie Dhaki Thua Kobi Pulibur’ (a collection of poetry in Assamese) and ‘Green Urban Biodiversity’ (a book on environment co-authored with Dr. Farishta Yasmin). He has taken his M.Sc. and M.Phill degree in Botany from Department of Botany, Gauhati University and presently pursuing Ph.D. in the same department. He has also done M.A. in Sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
